Have You Heard of the Thuraya Skyphone?

The Satellite-Connected Smartphone Reaching New Levels in Telecommunications

UAE’s Thuraya stunned businesspeople and tech-lovers alike with the unveiling of their revolutionary Skyphone; an Android smartphone with both terrestrial and satellite connectivity.

But what exactly does this mean?

Traditionally, we have relied on mobile networks and wi-fi to communicate with one another. However, this isn’t always an option in some locations or circumstances. Where terrestrial connection isn’t available, the Skyphone offers the incredibly ability to keep in touch via satellite (calls and SMS).

“Whether the customer is in the heart of a bustling city, undertaking frequent overseas travel, trekking in remote areas, venturing through the desert, or sailing at sea, the Skyphone by Thuraya always means that they will stay connected.”

This Android device has a super-fast Qualcomm Octa-core Kryo processor and a 6.67-inch Amoled display with Gorilla glass. The mobile also features a retractable antenna specifically for satellite connection; “not visible when not in use and can be extended when activating satellite services”. The Skyphone also has three rear and one front camera, and two nano-SIM card slots for terrestrial (5G, 4G, 3G and 2G worldwide) and satellite connectivity (in over 150 countries worldwide). The phone supports SIM cards from 370+ Thuraya Roaming Partners across over 170 countries worldwide, including O2 and Vodafone, which are both available through us, Logic Communications.

A phenomenal technological advancement, the Skyphone opens a new realm of possibilities for the future of telecommunications, while also giving both commercial and casual customers the ability to keep contact in any location, any scenario – friendly chats or emergency calls.

While a price has not yet been announced, the Skyphone is due to be formally launched by Thuraya this September 2024.
